Blizzard ’15: School Cancelled, Parking Ban, Trash Collection Delayed

batteriesWith a major snow storm bearing down on the region, a parking ban went into effect in East Greenwich at noon Monday and the Monday evening Town Council meeting has been cancelled, according to town officials. School Tuesday has been cancelled.

Trash pickup will be delayed one day Tuesday through for the rest of the week.

Heavy snow – at a rate of 2 to 4 inches an hour at times – will begin to fall Monday evening. East Greenwich could get more than 2 feet of snow, according to weather reports.

Town offices will be closed Tuesday, including Town Hall. The Tuesday Zoning Board meeting is cancelled.

After-school activities have been cancelled for Monday but there’s been no official word yet on school cancellation.

With heavy snow and strong winds predicted, National Grid is asking people to be very careful around downed power lines. To report a wire down or a power outage, call National Grid directly at (800) 465-1212. Governor Gina Raimondo has urged residents to stay off the roads and to look out for elderly neighbors and anyone living alone.

The scene at Dave’s Marketplace, 1000 Division St., was if anything worse than on Sunday, with waits to check out taking upwards of 45 minutes.
