Monday, Jan. 5

11:59 a.m. – The owner of a physical therapy business in EG told police a former employee appeared to have been soliciting clients for a new PT business she opened in Wakefield. The EG business owner said she was concerned the former employee had somehow gotten access to client emails and possibly other client information. Police spoke with the former employee, who said she did not take emails from the EG business but rather some clients gave her their email addresses and asked to be contacted about her new business.

12:59 p.m. – An EG resident told police she’d gotten a phone call from someone who said he worked for Microsoft and that he was called because Microsoft had detected a problem with her computer and he would help her fix it. He had her complete some steps on the computer, which then caused the screen to go red, with a “error” message. The man on the phone said that was the problem he’d been referring to and to fix it he’d need her credit card number. While the resident said she was leery of the request, she did give him a credit card number. She resisted, however, submitting the information on her computer, which angered the man. She hung up and her computer began to show profane messages and she got 12 voicemails within 10 minutes telling her to call back. That’s when she called the police, where were there when her phone rang again. Police answered the call and the man on the line said the other credit card didn’t work and they needed another one. The officer identified himself as police – the man laughed and hung up. The woman said the credit card, which she then closed, had been charged $99. Afterwards, she could not restart her computer.

Tuesday, Jan. 6

3:32 p.m. – The owner of a clothing shop on Main Street told police she wanted a no-trespass order for a woman who she thinks shoplifted from her store in December. The suspect has been charged with shoplifting at other places. She agreed to come to the police department to sign a copy of the NT order but denied having taken anything from the stop.

Thursday, Jan. 8

12:36 a.m. – Police cited an Exeter man for driving an unregistered car after he was pulled over for speeding on First Avenue. Routine checks showed the car registration expired in September. A family member came to give the driver a ride home. The car was towed from the scene.

6:26 p.m. – Police cited a North Kingstown woman for driving a car with expired registration after she was pulled over on Route 4 because the car lights were not on. Routine checks showed the registration was expired. The car was towed from the scene. A family member arrived to give the woman a ride home.

Friday, Jan. 9

2:13 a.m. – Residents of Ashbrook Run told police they awoke a short time earlier to the sound of voices and found two strange cars in their driveway, each occupied by two white men. One of the residents went outside to confront the strangers. He opened the passenger door of one of the cars (a red Dodge Durango) and was hit by one of the men inside. The resident hit him back, possibly causing serious facial damage. Both cars left. The cars belonging to the residents appeared to be untouched. In June, 2014, the residents reported a car stolen from their driveway.

11:36 a.m. – An employee at Frenchtown School told police she noticed damage to the rear passenger side of the car after school Thursday. She said the car had been parked there since early in the morning. Police saw the car had a long scratch.
