Friday, Jan. 23

Global Game Jam @ NEIT: New England Tech is once again as an official host site for the 2015 Global Game Jam, a 48-hour game design event will be held Friday to Sunday at 489 jam sites worldwide and will include more than 11,000 participants. Individuals over the age of 18, who have pre-registered, will face the challenge of the 48-hour Global Game Jam. Small teams will work together to literally create and complete a playable video game within the 48-hour time limit.  There is no pre-planning. Teams are informed of the “secret game theme” at the start of the event. The official kick-off begins at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, in the college’s Media Presentation Theater. Visitors are welcome through the weekend, but the game presentation Sunday at 3 p.m. may be the most exciting part. For more information, check out www.globalgamejam.org.

Saturday, Jan. 24

Snow-Freezing Rain-Rain Mix: In other words, a coastal Rhode Island special. No fun for all the kids wanting to hit the sledding hills. As of Friday, precipitation Saturday is a certainty. Temperatures are forecast to be between 27 degrees and 35 degrees. Sounds messy.

Holistic Wellness Day @ EG Free Library: The Friends of the East Greenwich Free Library are hosting a Holistic Wellness Day Start 2015 off in a healthy way, with tips to fuel your body and mind, and to keep your home organized for the new year. Presenters include Katie McDonald of BNourished and professional organizer and EG resident Kristin MacRae. Healthy snacks will be served and there will be handouts and coupons for local spas and fitness centers. Call 884-9510 for more information. From 2 to 4 p.m.

Sunday, Jan. 25

EG Animal Protection League open house: Every Sunday, the EGAPL opens its doors so people can meet the dogs and cats in need of permanent homes. You can find videos of some of the animals available for adoption here. EG Animal Hospital, 4302 Post Road, Cowesett. 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Annual Pasta Extravaganza: The East Greenwich Boys Home Association is holding its Annual Pasta Extravaganza Dinner at the Veteran Fireman’s Hall on Queen Street. From 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
