eg skatingTown ice skating rinks open: The cold has been a positive those who love skating outdoors and the town has set up two rinks to provide venues: at the basketball courts on Ledge Street of First Avenue and Shovelin Park, on Lenihan Lane just off Middle Road. If you aren’t sure of the ice conditions, check with the EG Rec. Department before heading out: (401) 886-8626.

State House Open House & Ice Skating with the Governor: Gov. Gina Raimondo is holding an open house at the State House featuring all kinds of local food and restaurants and performances by a number of local dance groups, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Then, everyone is invited to join the governor and her family at the Bank of America Skating Center at Kennedy Square for an open skate from 2 to 3 p.m. All free, including skating and skate rentals. Guests are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items for the Rhode Island Food Bank.

Punk rock documentary premiere at Odeum: The Rhode Island premiere of “Filmage – The Story of the Descendents/ALL,” takes place at the Greenwich Odeum at 8 p.m. Find more information here.

Pre-Renovation Parties at Chianti’s: Chianti’s Parkside is closing Monday for six weeks for renovations (the restaurant downstairs will remain open) but they are going out big, with a Bringing Down the Roof party today from 1 p.m. to closing. On Sunday, they are holding a Drink the Bar Dry party until 1 a.m. Monday. Appetizers will be half price on Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. and all day Sunday.

EG Animal Protection League open house: Every Sunday, the EGAPL opens its doors so people can meet the dogs and cats in need of permanent homes. You can find videos of some of the animals available for adoption here. EG Animal Hospital, 4302 Post Road, Cowesett. 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Providence Winter Restaurant Weeks in EG: Providence Winter Restaurant Weeks includes Grille on Main, Meritage, Red Stripe, and Eleven Forty-Nine and begins today through Saturday, Jan. 24. Participating restaurants are offering three-course, fixed-price lunches for $14.95 and three-course fixed-price dinners for $29.95 and $34.95. Reservations for each restaurant may be made online at ProvidenceRestaurantWeeks.com or by calling the restaurants directly.
