Obituary: Nancy J. (Riley) Walsh, 84

Nancy J. (Riley) Walsh, of East Greenwich died Oct. 16. Mrs. Walsh was born in Woburn, Mass., on Jan. 29, 1930, and was the daughter of the late John J. Riley and Anna (James) Riley and sister of the late John J. Riley, Jr. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard L. Walsh, Jr., being married for 54 years before he predeceased her.

Mrs. Walsh was a graduate of Bouve School of Tufts University, Class of 1951, where she met her husband. She taught physical education for two years following graduation before marrying and becoming a homemaker.

A resident of East Greenwich for 47 years she was an avid golfer and a member of Quidnessett Country Club, North Kingstown, for more than 40 years. For many years she was also a member of PGA National Golf Club, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. “Nancy Darling” was – hands down – the best golfer in the family.

She is survived by her son, Richard Leo Walsh III, of North Kingstown, her son and daughter-in-law, John J. and Susan M. Walsh of North Reading, Mass., her son and daughter-in-law, James P. and Kathleen Walsh of Norfolk, Mass.;  her grandchildren, John J., Jr., Kathryn N., and Michael F. Walsh of North Reading, Mass., and Erin J. and Emily R. Walsh of Norfolk, Mass. She was the sister of the late John J. Riley, Jr., sister-in-law of Diana W. Riley, the late Barbara (Walsh) Lyons, and the late James Lyons, and aunt of Helen W. (Riley) Nicholson, Ann Carol (Riley) Schaldenbrand, John J. Riley, III, Peter A. Riley, Alycia (Lyons) Davies, and Ann Lyons.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich. Burial will be in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown.
