School Start Time Survey – Your Chance to Weigh In

by | Nov 19, 2014

The Ad Hoc Committee studying school start times has created a survey for the community and East Greenwich school staff members. You’ll find the link here (one submission per person). A separate survey for middle and high school students will be administered during school.
The panel is studying whether a later school start time would be beneficial to students, as well as examining both the financial and logistical ramifications of such a move.
The movement behind later start times for adolescents has gained momentum across the country, with proponents citing increased productivity and better achievement in school when students get a chance to sleep in a little later. Others argue such a change will make after-school activities such as sports more difficult, since the end time for school would be pushed back as well.
A public forum on the issue is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. in the library at Cole Middle School. All are welcome to attend.

This would have a HUGE impact on after school sports programs unless the whole state goes this route, Also, there is no way this can be dine without paying the bus companies more for added routes. All so your precious teens can sleep a little longer. You better not be planning to increase my taxes for this coddling.

There are studies that show better grades as a result. However at this time I am not at liberty to say which way the committee is leaning. I must say that I am suspicious about whether kids will go to bed later or the same time.
