Thursday, Nov. 13

RESCHEDULED Cohn plays The Greenwich Odeum at 59 Main Street in East Greenwich at 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 13.

‘The Map Thief’ lecture at the library: The Friends of the East Greenwich Free Library will host a special event featuring Michael Blanding, author of the recently released book “The Map Thief: The Gripping Story of an Esteemed Rare-Map Dealer Who Made Millions Stealing Priceless Maps.” The book details the career of E. Forbes Smiley, an antiquarian map dealer who spent years doubling as a map thief until he was arrested while delicately tearing maps out of books in the Yale University Library in 2005. 6:30 p.m.

Ice Cream Social: The Avengers Sailing Team is hosting an Ice Cream Social for the team as well as any interested newcomers. The event will take place at the East Greenwich Yacht Club, 10 Water St., in the Board Room on the second floor. 7 to 8 p.m.

Friday, Nov. 14

School Finance Committee meeting: On the agenda is the 2014-15 budget schedule. The panel meets in the Superintendent’s Conference Room, 111 Peirce St. at 7:30 a.m.

Stone Soup Night @ Cole: Stone Soup night was inspired by the folktale, “Stone Soup.” The moral of the story is that if we all work together and share resources, life will be better for all people not just a select few. They are only be selling 200 tickets, so act fast! Tickets are $5 per student/child under 14 and $10 per adult. In addition to a soup dinner, drinks and dessert the ticket price includes a hand-painted soup bowl. The Global Studies students will be performing an original play entitled, “The Birth Lottery,” based on the idea that where you are born determines the quality of life you will have. Airband at EGHS: The annual show has each class and different groups in lip-syncing performances that are also amazing. 7 p.m. $10 at the door.

Pajama & Coat Drive: The EGHS club All Children Matter thanks those who donated and supported the Halloween Costumes drive. They are still collecting new pajamas (gently used will also be welcomed) and gently used coats and winter items, such as gloves, mittens, sweatshirts, snow pants, and boots will be collected at all elementary schools and  EGHS until Dec. 5.  All sizes welcome! There is a special need for teen and adult sizes. Thanks!

EG Rotary Citrus Drive: It’s that time again – time to purchase that box of oranges or grapefruit that will see you through the darkest days of winter. New York City Day Trip: The Greenwich Bay Women’s Club is sponsoring a day in the Big Apple, Saturday, Dec. 6. A deluxe motor coach (with wifi) will leave EG at 7 a.m. and depart NYC at 7 p.m. You plan what happens in between! $50. Register for next historic cemetery cleanup: The EG Historic Cemetery Commission is going great guns and planning its final two fall cleanups. Saturday, Nov. 15

North Kingstown Farmers Market: This indoor farmers market is a great destination for a Saturday, to buy food and other local products and enjoy some music. At the Lafayette Mill, 650 Ten Rod Road, North Kingstown. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Comedian Jim Colliton @ Odeum: Jim Colliton, who has appeared on Ed McMahon’s “Next Big Star,” Comcast’s “Comedy Spotlight,” Comedy Central’s “Laugh Riots” and XM Satellite Radio’s Comedy Channel, will be at the Odeum Sat., Nov. 15, as part of its fall comedy series. In December, Ken Rogerson from this season’s “Last Comic Standing,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and “The Late Show with David Letterman,” will be at the Odeum.
